What are Iron Legend weight plates made from?Iron Legend Olympic weight (or bumper plates as they are commly called) are made of virgin rubber. This is preferable to recycled rubber (from old tyres or other sources) as they have enhanced performance and aesthetic characteristics
-
Are rubber plates better than metal plates?Bumper plates are often chosen over steel plates as they allow loaded barbells to be dropped safely onto the correct flooring without causing damage to the floor, plates, bar or athlete. Steel plates can also be extremely loud when useb and rubber Bumper plates greatly reduce this problem
-
How are the weight plates tested?Iron Legend Olympic bumper plates are dropped onto hard flooring over 30,000 times to ensure they have the durability and performance expected of these premium plates
-
Why do the weight plates have a metal insert in the centre? The metal inserts help protect the bar and plates and make it easier to slide the plates on and off the bar.
-
Why are the bars made from spring steel?Spring steel is a name given to a wide range of steels primarily used in the manufacture of springs used in automotive and industrial suspension applications. These steels generally have a very high yield strength which allows them to return to their original shape despite significant twisting or bending. This makes spring steel ideal for use in barbells as a certain about of whip (or bend) is very useful for particular types of lifts
-

The bumper plates have a diameter of 450mm with a tolerance of +/- 1mm and the bars are 2200mm long with a 28mm diameter and weigh 20kg +/- 1%
-
How do Iron Legend bars compare to others on the market?Olympic bars should have a high tensile strength (between 170,000 and 190,000 PSI), a corrosion-resistant plating like zinc or chrome, be 2200mm (86.5 inches) in length and between 28mm and 29mm in diameter (depending on whether they are used for competition Olympic weightlifting or powerlifting), have rotating sleeves and weigh 20kg. The Iron Legend bar is at the top end with 190,000 PSI, black and hard chromium coated and features 10NK needle bearings to ensure a smooth and frictionless sleeve rotation.
